GIN WIGMORE

New Zealand artist, Gin Wigmore along with her band mates Dave Goodison and Steve Padin were a breath of fresh air, bringing their new songs and super fun spirit to Gatos Trail. Piecing together the music was both naturally seamless and uncompromising. We worked on vocalizations - (solo, bv’s and group), dialed in some great drum sounds, crushing the mono room mic with some 1176 compression and killer guitar tones with the Chandler pres and Emperical Labs Distressors. Recording group vocals, group guitars and group hand claps around the Wunder U47 (in omni mode) added to the fun and free spirit of this session. Multi-instrumentalist Steve Padin (aka Tito) brought some great sound scapes using the in-house keys (various synths, Yamaha piano) and “found sound” percussion. We also brought in local Cello player Jim Lakey to add some amazing parts to the dreamy Gin ballad - Hollywood.

We had 7 beautiful days to write + track and managed to squeeze in lots of fun, good meals, some hot tub action, star gazing, smores around the campfire and were blessed with a truly majestic fall week here in the Yucca Valley/Joshua Tree hi desert. This is the type of session I love to host and engineer - great people, organic sounds with an adventurous spirit - experimental ideology mixed with roots rock/pop, dare I say, borderline country sensibility at times??? This Gin Wigmore session was really clicking on all cylinders and clearly one I will hold dear!

Until next time - cheers mates! Dan J
