Studio owner Dan Joeright is a drummer first but he’s also the chief engineer at Gatos Trail and is available to produce, engineer, play drums on or host your session as needed.
As a drummer, Dan has worked with a variety of notable artists including El Vez, Sasquatch, Jim White and Terry Hall and was a member of the Moog driven rock band The Rentals fronted by ex-Weezer bassist Matt Sharp. In 2016 Dan founded the musical collective Earth Moon Earth taking on the rolls of producer, drummer and principle writer. Earth Moon Earth features his friends from such bands as Morcheeba, Psychedelic Furs, Broken Bells, Swans, The Freeks and others.
On the technical side Dan has worked with the Mekons, SZA, Earthless and Nebula to name a few. Here’s what Dan says about his foray into music production; “Before joining the Rentals I was dabbling enough with engineering and producing that I had the technical abilities necessary to engineer and produce our “Last Little Life” EP which I did out of my garage space in Hollywood (dubbed - Outer Space Studio). That was my first real taste of working with other musicians in a capacity other than drummer/musician which was very appealing to me. On another Rentals release that I was co-producing I got to work with Joey Santiago (Pixies) who was the guest guitarist on our track “Song Of Remembering” and that was another milestone where I knew I would continue to explore the production side of music.”
“Shortly after that I started to build Gatos Trail which took 2 years to complete. It was a bit of a leap of faith to stake my claim in the middle of the desert back then but I loved it and couldn’t wait to work on my projects in that environment and I believed others would enjoy coming out to the desert to explore and create too. Since then it’s been my pleasure to host an eclectic variety of artists from – Sharon Van Etten to Twin Shadow to Unsane to Gunna among many others.”
To put it simply Joeright says “I have such a huge respect for artists of all stripes - from independent bands to major label artists. I love the creative process and I love helping others realize their vision. I feel blessed to work with the amazing folks who pass through Gatos Trail.”

“One of my most memorable drumming moments was back in ‘98 when I was tapped by David Byrne to play on a Terry Hall (The Specials) session that he was producing. Byrne and Marc Ribot (Tom Waits) were on guitars, Jane Scarpantoni was on Cello and of course the late great Terry Hall - RIP - on vocals. Playing with that ensemble was an incredible experience for me and one that I’ll never forget.” - Dan Joeright
