MASTERS OF REALITY
Desert rock pioneers Masters Of Reality descended on Gatos Trail Recording Studio and it was WONDERFUL - as Mr. Master Chris Goss would say ;). 2 + weeks of writing, recording, story telling and experimenting. We got some of the best drum sounds and drum tracks in the studio’s history and surprisingly nothing got broken! Goss showed up with a truck load of amps, guitars, keyboards, midi units and toys which got sifted through in a mad scientist fashion with crazy sounds emitting from the most unusual sources. Engineering this record was an interesting adventure as one never knew what would be happening on any given day so I had to be ready for anything. In a haze of smoke, brought about by the biggest bag of weed this studio owner has ever seen, songs would emerge seemingly out of nowhere OR from a rough melody hummed into Goss’s iphone some time ago. Now the task was to resurrect, dust off and push these ideas through the Masters Of Reality meat grinder ( cue drummer John Leamy and bassist Paul Powell) before giving them a polish, a scribble and then… -Ah WONDERFUL!
As of this broadcast MOR are still fine tuning mixes and overdubbing some vocals but the first single, SUGAR, was released in May to coincide with a Europe tour which, by all accounts, went amazingly well. If you’re a fan of the band you know their story and are no doubt waiting with baited breath for this album to drop - the first MOR record in 15 years. If you’re not up to speed, the first thing to know is that Goss produced records for Kyuss and Queens of The Stone Age among others and is largely regarded as the godfather of desert rock. He has had a huge influence on the desert rock sound - some people would say he pretty much invented it - I’d be one of those people. Educate yourself and listen to the prior Goss/MOR records so you’re all caught up in time for this one because it’s gonna be WONDERFUL!
